Pool Maintenance Tips for the Fall

Pool Maintenance Tips for the Fall

Now that the days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder, your home maintenance routine changes too. If you own a vinyl pool in your backyard, you need to start preparing a plan for maintaining it throughout these chilly months. DMG Pool Builders has some pool maintenance tips for the fall. And if you need the help of experts, we are only a call away! We service the Houston area and are always ready to help.

Remove Leaves From Your Vinyl Pool

During this time of the year, it is crucial to use your skimmer to remove any leaves or debris that fall into the pool. You will be using the skimmer more frequently during the fall, as the old leaves make their way off the trees. The sooner you bring out the pool cover, the less time you will spend removing the soggy leaves. This pool maintenance tip is crucial.

Inspect Pool Cover Regularly

Now that the days are colder, you are less likely to go swimming outdoors. It’s time to bring out the pool cover. Before you cover the vinyl pool, ensure that there aren’t any leaves or other debris sticking to the inside. You don’t want to have old soggy leaves stuck to the cover for months.

As leaves start to fall, so do branches and other types of objects, such as acorns. These sharper objects can puncture holes into the pool cover. If there are holes or tears in the pool cover, they need to be repaired before other objects fall onto it. Otherwise, the repair becomes more expensive or you will need to get a completely new cover. Inspect your pool cover regularly to ensure that there aren’t any holes when branches fall.

Check Pool Chemicals and Clean Filters

Your pool needs a lot more chemicals in the summertime when it is being used more often. Now that fall is approaching, the number of chemicals can be reduced significantly. Throw out any remaining chemicals before closing the pool for the winter. You shouldn’t use these old chemicals in the following year.

Make sure the pool filter and pump are clean before fall begins. Also, check the pool’s heater to ensure that it works properly and is ready for the colder temperatures if you plan to use the pool during these months still.

Clean Up the Yard Around the Pool

Pick up any toys or items around the pool that can get blown into it. The storms were delayed this summer, which means they will be making more appearances during the fall months. We recommend trimming nearby trees and bushes to avoid any branches or other debris from getting blown into the pool.

DMG Pool Builders Is Ready to Help

Our experts can inspect your pool pumps, filters, heaters, and more to ensure they work properly. We can also ensure that the appropriate pool chemicals are in place. If your pool cover or another aspect of your pool needs a repair or replacement, we are on it. Follow these pool maintenance tips and give DMG Pool Builders a call today to schedule an appointment for this fall.

5 Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard Pool This Summer

5 Ways to Enjoy Your Backyard Pool This Summer

Although we are halfway through summer, there is still a lot of time to enjoy your backyard pool. Whether you want some alone time or a way to hang out with your family, you can enjoy a relaxing, entertaining day right in your backyard. It does not get better than that. DMG Pool Builders has come up with 5 ways to enjoy your backyard pool for the remainder of the summer.

Play Water Games With the Family

Splashing around your backyard pool is a great way to bond with your family. Bring some squirt guns or set up a volleyball net and have some friendly competition! Here are a couple more entertaining water games to enjoy with your family. It is time to make some unforgettable memories!

Read a Book and Take in the Sun

Catch up on your novel while relaxing on your pool float or a comfortable lounge chair. This is a perfect opportunity to take in some sun as well. But don’t forget to put on some sunscreen!

If audiobooks are more of your style, crank up those outdoor speakers and immerse yourself in the book’s world while floating around your pool.

Need to Relax? How About Some Water Meditation?

Pull up a guided meditation and swim a couple of laps or float around your pool as you listen. If you don’t want to listen to a guided meditation, just train your attention inward and focus on your breathing. This will help you get rid of distracting thoughts. Enjoy the calming effect of water by yourself or with your loved ones!

Increase Your Depths With an Underwater Photoshoot

Is your photo game on point? Have you taken pictures on cliffs and with celebrities? Well, how about underwater? Do you think you can hold your breath long enough to do an underwater photoshoot? Even just a few seconds underwater can get you some glamorous pictures. Buy a cheap disposable camera or seal your phone in a tight waterproof case and start posing!

Get Your Work Out In

Is it too hot to go for a jog, but these gas prices are telling you to stay home instead of driving to the gym? We don’t blame you! You don’t need to leave your house to exercise when you have a backyard pool. Just blast your favorite songs and swim a couple of laps. If you want to spice up your workout, do some water jumping jacks, dips, pool planks, and some leg kicks!

How to Keep Your Pool Water Cool This Summer

How to Keep Your Pool Water Cool This Summer

There’s nothing better than taking a dip in your pool to cool off from this hot Texas heat. However, with these high temperatures, your pool water can get warm too. Although this can be desirable in the winter months, you don’t want to be dealing with warm pool water in the summertime. Luckily, DMG Pool Builders has some tips and tricks to keep your pool water cool during these hot months.

Keep the Water Moving

DMG Pool Builders can add a waterfall or decorative fountain to your pool in order to keep the pool water moving. Just let us know what your vision is, and we will create it. There are many styles to choose from that get the job done. So how does this help keep the pool water cool? You only run the fountain in the evening and night to circulate cool air throughout the water. If you run the fountain or waterfall during the day, you risk making the water even hotter because you are circulating the hot air throughout the water.

Use a Pool Mister

Pool misters can quickly lower the temperature of your pool water. The constant mist leads to quick evaporation and in turn cooler water. We recommend running the pool mister at night for a greater cooling effect.

Cover the Pool When It’s Not In Use

Invest in a fitted pool covering. Although this cover won’t make your pool water any cooler, it will maintain the temperature that it’s at. Therefore, if the water is at a desirable temperature, cover the pool when you aren’t using it. Most covers are easy to use and relatively inexpensive.

Install a Pool Chiller or Heat Pump

Pool chillers are another option that is more affordable than installing a fountain or waterfall. These chillers use fans to cool water as it travels through its system. They are supposed to lower the pool water up to 10 degrees overnight. Of course, it depends on the size of the pool.

We can also install a heat pump. That’s right. You read that right. A heat pump has a reverse option that cools water by extracting heat from it.

Natural Shading

The landscape of your home can help with keeping your pool water cool. For example, having trees around your pool can provide shading and help keep the temperature lower. However, that does mean you will have to deal with leaves and other debris getting into your pool. So, if you decide to build your pool around trees or plant trees around your pool, you will need to provide a lot more maintenance to your pool.

Stay Cool This Summer

Use these tips and tricks to help lower the temperature of your pool water. Our experts can come over to install fountains, waterfalls, heat pumps, or pool chillers in order to keep your pool water cool. And if you don’t have a pool in your backyard yet, give us a call today! We will schedule a time and date that works best and build your dream pool.

Beat the Heat Waves This Summer With the Vinyl Pool in Your Backyard

Beat the Heat Waves This Summer With the Vinyl Pool in Your Backyard

Did your phone alert you of the upcoming heat waves? If so, it has probably been going off all summer. Heat waves are common in Texas, but this year they have become much more extreme due to climate change. When you pull up your weather app, it’s normal to see over 100 degrees reflected for the week. If you need some strategies for cooling down this summer, just follow our tips below while enjoying your pool. And if you need one installed, DMG Pool Builders is readily available! Let’s keep you fresh this summer and kick those heat waves to the curb in the comfort of your backyard.

Split Your Large Meals Into Mini Meals

We are accustomed to having three big meals throughout the day, but splitting those up into snacks can actually make the heat more tolerable. Digesting a big meal makes your body work harder, which results in you feeling lethargic or uncomfortable. Instead, eat mini-meals throughout the day to keep you fueled up instead of full.

Make Drinking Fun!

It’s recommended to drink at least 8 cups of water a day. But let’s be honest. For some of us, that’s a really hard goal to meet. But it’s highly important to stay hydrated, especially during these heat waves. There are plenty of ways to make drinking fun for you and your family. Get ice cubed trays with different shapes and fill them up with different colored juices. Throw some cranberry juice ice cubes into your water and make it extra refreshing!

Stay Minty

Did you know that peppermint makes the heat more tolerable? Mint opens your airways. As you take a breath, you will feel a blast of relief from the heat. Pop some peppermint gum or put some mint leaves into your drink and freshen up. If you want to be a little more creative, make some minty popsicles and enjoy them in the vinyl pool in your backyard.

Crank Up the Spice

We know what you’re thinking. How can spicy food cool me down, when all I feel is my body burn up as I eat some hot peppers? Well, when your body temperature is turning up, you will begin to sweat, which in return cools you down. Interesting, right?

The Freshest Fourth Of July Pool Party Ideas in 2022

The Freshest Fourth Of July Pool Party Ideas in 2022

So, you just got a new vinyl pool installed and you want to show it off this year? Or maybe you’ve had it for some time, but it’s never too old to host a grand Fourth of July pool party! DMG Pool Builders has some fresh ideas for throwing the best pool party this holiday weekend. From the snacks to the pool activities, we have thought of it all. Let’s get this party started!

Fourth of July Pool Snacks

If you want to be festive with your snacks, you can make an American pie with blueberries and cranberries, and arrange the crust so that it outlines the flag. The same goes for an American flag salad made out of watermelon, blueberries, and feta cheese, and arrange the food in the form of the flag.

If you want simpler options, you can get red, white, and blue popsicles, patriotic cake pops, and chocolate-covered pretzels.

Drink Stations

During the hot Texas summers, you need to have some cool, refreshing drinks for your guests. Especially during a Fourth of July celebration, drinks are very popular. But it’s not just about what you serve, but how you serve it. You can use a wheelbarrow, birdbath, kiddie pool, garden fountain, or a wagon to hold the drinks for your guests. All you have to do is fill them up with ice and place some sodas, beer, juices, wine, and bottled water to keep your guests refreshed.

Outdoor Lounge

Add some cool seating outdoors and make your Fourth of July pool party one to remember! If the weather permits, bring the indoors out and create a beautiful, luxurious lounge. You can bring out some comfy chairs, couches, rugs, and a coffee table. This is the perfect scenario for sipping cocktails while you watch the kids play around in the pool.

Add Some Spice to Your Vinyl Pool

You can turn your pool into a water feature by adding some sprinklers near the edges. The air will be filled with the soothing sounds of a fountain, and the kids will have a great time getting splashed with the sprinklers.

Pool Floats

Don’t forget to add pool floats! Stay in spirit and add red, white, and blue floats to give your guests a way to relax.

Pool Party Games

Get yourself a giant ring toss, some pool basketball nets, or a volleyball net. Let’s make this Fourth of July pool party tough to beat!

Tips for Keeping Your Vinyl Pool Clean and Sanitary

Tips for Keeping Your Vinyl Pool Clean and Sanitary

It’s no surprise that you want to maintain your vinyl pool clean during the summer months. Who wants to swim in a pool with dirty water full of mold and soggy leaves floating around? Just imagine accidentally drinking that water or finding wet trash stuck to your body in places no one wants to even think about. DMG Pool Builders has some insiders for keeping your vinyl pool clean these upcoming months, so you can enjoy your pool to the max.

Why Does Your Pool Need Regular Maintenance?

Regularly maintaining your pool will help it last for many years. In fact, neglect is the main reason pools lose their durablity and nice appearance. Not only does maintenance keep your pool water clean and inviting, but it also reduces the risk of algae and it helps keep your drains clear and functioning properly.

What Pool Cleaning Items Should You Invest In?

We recommend investing in a leaf skimmer, a pool brush, a vacuum, and a tile and vinyl cleaner. And as a heads up, when the pool brush is no longer in good condition, don’t hesitate to chuck it out. Worn-down bristles can damage the pool liner by creating rough edges.

You can also use ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) to clean the pool. It can be found in pool supply stores and it removes stains and discoloration without harming the vinyl. All you need to do is mix the acid with water and spread it on the discolored areas. After you leave it on there for a few minutes, scrub it off with the pool brush and rinse the area.

DIY Cleaning Supplies

Although cleaning supplies aren’t too expensive, they can add up in the long run. Luckily for you, we have some DIY supplies that work just well in keeping your vinyl pool clean.

Borax

If you have Borax in your laundry cleaning solutions, you can also use it to clean your pool. Just mix it with some water to create a thick paste. Apply the paste to a pool stain, leave it on there for several minutes, and then scrub it off. It might lighten colored liners, so test it out first in an area that is not too visible.

Undiluted White Vinegar

You can remove mold and mildew with undiluted white vinegar. Apply the vinegar with a rag or sponge. Leave it in there for a few minutes, then scrub it with a brush.

Wet Melamine Sponge

To remove grime, you can gently scrub it with a wet melamine sponge. An example of this type of sponge is a Magic Eraser.  Don’t use soap or any other cleaning material when going down this route.

Dish Soap Solution

You can create a dish soap solution by adding water and vinegar to the soap. Use a sponge and scrub the areas that need cleaning.
